My approach

I have extensive training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, which is the main type of therapy I offer. I have also trained in other modalities of psychotherapy, so I can integrate other interventions when helpful.

The idea of psychoanalytic therapy is to work collaboratively to resolve your difficulties by better understanding the reasons behind them. Some assumptions that inform my work are:

– Despite our best intentions and efforts, many of our emotional difficulties spring from reactions and patterns learned early in life we unknowingly repeat later in life. A therapist can help us realise and untangle these patterns, allowing us to recover a greater degree of liberty and control over our emotional life.

– Much of who we are as grown-ups, both the good and the bad, is based on lessons we learned in early life relationships. A good therapeutic relationship can be a privileged space to explore how these influences play out in our present life.

Supervision

I offer supervision to Psychologists and other Mental Health Professionals. I offer a reflective space to think through your psychotherapeutic work, to understand psychological and relational dynamics playing out in the treatment, so you can have better chances of learning from your experience. I have an interest in some topics such as somatic presentations, indication and strategic planning of treatment in complex cases, management of risk, and mentoring.

My clinical work in diverse settings such public, private and university clinics, teaching at postgraduate level in the field of clinical psychology and psychotherapy, and my personal experience through different cultures give me an ample background to supervise colleagues.
